Huatulco, Mexico....Paradise!!!!!!!!!!

The trip of a lifetime…..Huatulco, Mexico….. it was like paradise, no other way to put it… the weather was awesome… mid-high 30’s, humid, and only rain on one day…the first half of the trip was mostly spent by the poolside and in the pool… the latter, playing sports with my new amigos and amigoettes I met at the resort….

The trip was a one week all inclusive resort at the La Brisas Hotel in Huatulco Mexico from Thurs Nov 5th to 12th…. The trip cost just under $1K for each of us…we cashed in both our travel vouchers of $600 each, thus the trip only cost us under $800…..

We flew out on the Thurs at 9:30am, leaving 15 mins early…. The trip was suppose to be about 6 hrs, but with our headwind, it took us 5 hr and 15 mins… the flight was smooth on Transalta… they played Julie and Julia ( I fell asleep halfway thru) which was a snoozer, and Night at the Museum 2, which I didn’t watch… after we landed, it took us an hour to get our bags, and than thru the doors we went, where we were offered drinks, tequila, and sandwiches b4 we got on the tour bus for our 25 min drive to the resort…. On the bus, we were offered beer or pop….once at the resort, we were greeted by the staff cheering and high fiving us….. I learned that we were the first plane in for the new tourist season…. After we carted to our condo style room, we headed back to the lobby for supper set up by the pool…. After a stroll of our settings, we headed back to our room, and our first night was complete….

Friday was all about getting acquainted with the adult pool and poolside chair enjoying the sun and getting a nice tan!! … we took the afternoon to go on a Rough Tour (city tour) into the two small towns near the resort (Tangolunda Bay and La Cruciterra)… there we stopped at a nice Mescal shop where we did shooters and shooters and more shooters of all the different flavours….. I even had a salsa chip topped off with crunchy grasshoppers…not bad…. There I bought 12 coffee flav, 50 ml, mescal as gifts for my colleagues (C-Thom, Rob, Kell, posse, KBG, Mylenne, Katherine, Heidi, and Rita) and a 750ml Mango mescal for myself and 750ml mocha flav for Deb……. We also did some shopping in town for Deb’s family…and than we headed back to the resort for the night… while on this trip, we experienced our only rain day… it was HEAVY!!!… that night, the resort had Casino night and I lost all my play money

Sat, after another afternoon of being by the poolside all day and participating in our first aquatic fitness class, we also took in our first A La Carte Mexican meal for the night……it was delicious…..

Sun…. tennis first thing in the morning, and than it was another all day poolside event, except I finally played some vball…. here, I finally had my first interaction with some of the staff…. Lillian, Victor, and Alberto… from there, everything changed for me…… I even met a young kid(19) from Toronto name Neil who I got to hang with later and know a bit…man, the memories of being young and a partier like him…… such a funny, yet naïve, kid…..

Mon… went on an all day Bay Tour of the surrounding, private, yet clean, and beautiful bays and beaches on a two tier boat….. from when we got on at 9am til we left at 6pm, the crew was awesome, supplying us with ever flowing beer, tequila, pop, and water…. Even had the same tour guide from the city tour, Ilich, who kept referring to me as Wong (sounded like Juan)….. great, funny guy….. we stopped at this one beach for an hour to swim and snorkel and hang on the beach… after that, we stopped for lunch at another beach with me having the lunch special…pineapple baked with bacon wrapped prawns, onions and green peppers,,,,,delicious!!!... after making back to the resort we crashed for a few hours til supper arrived…. that night, the resort held a Mexican night with Mexican games…

Tues…more pool… pool bingo, and my first beach vball (where my reputation of my athletic abilities grew)….. after crashing at the hotel, Deb was too tired, so I headed out to supper myself….. after supper, I checked in on the night games, where I was pulled into a beer drinking contest with four other Cdns… I lost….. next, the girls were up, and they had to go around grabbing all the guy’s shirts and shorts…. Funny stuff to see everyone half naked, esp 8 old geezers…. They even posed for pics… I was lucky enuf to escape with only a shirt stolen….. than I hung out with Neil and his cousin at the bar with a staff member name Israel…. After that, we headed to the on site disco, where Neil and his Cuz and I boogy boogy for a few hours with Lillian, Lisa, and Allie…and da boys, Albertoson, Edguardo, and Daniel.. as I was heading back to the room, I saw a bunch of guys from the wedding party skinning dipping in the ocean… I never looked again…..

Wed….. morning tennis….than we headed into Tangolunda Bay a couple of times where Deb picked up two 1L bottles of Kahlua and some vanilla …than I played pool basketball with Deb and some of the staff and guest before heading out to beach vball…than, I hung out with the staff again…. Met Omar (the supervisor of Athletics) and Josh and Liz and Armando… that night event was traditional Mexican dance on the theatre…

Thurs was our last day…. We got up early to hang at the pool one last time…hung out with the staff for breakfast…. we checked out and said our good-byes to the crew and off to the airport….. the flight was painful for me, but I survived….. we stopped in Vancouver first b4 heading home… 8.5 hr trip ending at 1:15am… we got thru customs with out 4L of alcohol when we were only allowed 2L…. oh well…. That was our trip…

Food…… buffet, average
A la carte…great
Staff… friendly beyond belief… shout out to my amigos in the Athletic Dept…
Resort…. Free unlimited food and alcohol, need I say more…
Tan….. nice and brown, no real burn except my lips…
Crowds… nice much…first plane in… not many pple around, two days of having the whole pool….
Room…. Satisfactory….
Price…everything cheap, when we had to pay..
Overall…. Best trip ever to date…like Paradise!!!
